공병호-정규재 씨 대립 격화時事 터치 2020. 5. 14. 07:51
4.15부정선거 의혹과 관련해 맞서고 있는 공병호 씨와 정규재 씨가 한국의 부정선거 의혹을 다룬 한 유력 외신의기사를 두고도 또 첨예하게 맡붙고 있습니다.
12일짜 미국의 'USAtoday'가 게재한 '동전 1000개를 던졌을 때 모두 같은 면으로 떨어지는 것과 같은 한국의 2020년 총선 결과(Korea's 2020 General Election Result Likened to 1,000 Coins All Landing on Heads)' 제하의 기사가 그것인데, 이를 두고 정규재 씨는 이 기사가 USAtoday 자체기사가 아니라 공병호 씨가 자신이 만든 보도자료로 USAtoday에 돈을 주고 실은 기사라는 주장을 하고 나섰고, 이에 공병호 씨는 결코 그런 적이 없다고 강변, 허위사실 및 명예훼손 운운하면서 서로 험하게 맞서고 있는 형국입니다.
일단 사실 확인 차원으로 보자면 정규재 씨의 주장이 맞는 것 같은 생각이 들긴 합니다. USAtoday에 들어가보니 보도자료를 제공받아 기사를 만들어주는 '24-7 press release service'라는 게 있는데, 위의 한국선거 관련 기사도 보도자료 소스를 찾아 들어가니 공병호 박사의 연구소가 뜨는 게 그렇다는 것이지요.
USAtoday의 '24-7 press release service'는 제공받은 보도자료로 기사를 쓰고 신문에 게재해주면서 더 나아가 미국의 지방신문들(local papers)에도 게재(distribution)해 준다고 광고하고 있습니다. 물론 돈을 받고 해 주는 것인데, 250달러로 나와 있습니다.
하지만 공병호 씨는 결코 돈을 주고 기사를 게재하지 않았다고 강변하면서 그 근거로 위의 기사가 미국의 1백 수십 여개 지방신문들에 광범하게 게재된 자료를 내 세우고 있습니다. 하지만 이는 USAtoday의, 보도자료로 기사를 써 주고 뿌려주는(writing & distribution) '24-7 press release service'의 일환이기 때문에 설득력이 떨어져 보입니다. 물론 USAtoday가 한국의 부정선거 의혹 논란에 관심을 갖고 공병호 씨가 현재 부정선거 의혹을 강하게 주장하고 있는 인사인 만큼 그 소스를 공병호 씨로 삼아 자체적으로 쓴 기사일 수도 있기 합니다.
이 논란이 어떻게 귀결될지는 지켜볼 일이지만, 사실여부는 조만간 확실히 가려질 것 같아 보입니다. 이에 따라 이 논란에서 지고 이기는 결과에 따라 부정선거 의혹 논란에도 적잖은 영향을 줄 것으로 보여 집니다.
